Gemma Zeybel

Nutrition scientist and fellow of the Higher Education Academy

I am a Nutrition Scientist in Newcastle Upon Tyne. I completed my PhD studies under the supervision of Professor Pearson and Dr Ward at Newcastle Medical School. I was looking at how the diet influences gastro-oesophageal reflux in patients with cystic fibrosis. I worked alongside dietitians at the Royal Victoria Infirmary to gather dietary intake and symptoms of reflux from the adult patients. I'm especially interested in how the diet can be used to improve symptoms of disease. The diet plays an important role in the ongoing treatment of cystic fibrosis. New research is ongoing and helps the multi-disciplinary team to improve the nutritional status and therefore survival of patients with cystic fibrosis.
