Understanding how stem cells from the placenta can protect the developing brain

My research area involves investigating how stem cells from the placenta can protect the newborn brain after injury. Injury during development can occur in a variety of different ways. However, the preterm brain is most vulnerable. If we can treat early with a stem cell therapy which can protect against injury and help the brain recover, we can prevent life long brain injury and complications like cerebral palsy.
