#ScienceOfEveryday - Cars, racing and robots
A look at car related themes from a science perspective covering racing, risk, robots and research.
Whilst we'd all accept and appreciate the level of research and development that goes into developing a car and it's mechanicals, the science associated with all aspects of car development is extensive. Whilst most research remains the preserve of corporations that invest in and develop their automotive products, there's plenty of research conducted by researchers and academic institutions that is consequently reviewed and published.
The obvious applications of scientific study fall to the development of technology, usually in the motorsport and racing arena where resources are plentiful, and costs are largely not a barrier to developing cars that go faster and stop more quickly.
That said, studies that highlight the things that influence a drivers propensity for risk taking on the road, and what can be done to reduce that appetite are of huge value in reducing accidents.
