physiological responses of broilers to activated charcoal and ash as mineral supplement

The intensification of agriculture especially animal production are constituting environmental challenges (waste management, odour control, health challenges, pollution etc) with in the farm environment. This is beside the increased cost of feedstuffs employed in ration formulation which keep threatening to shut down animal agriculture due to high cost of production. While several studies have suggested the adoption of non-conventional feed resources as a panacea to increasing cost of feeds and animal protein, little attention has been given to alternative mineral sources. The study is therefore aimed at converting agricultural residues and waste from farm to activated charcoal and ash as supplemental mineral in broiler feeding while exploring methodologies that can engender odour control in farm houses.
