Transfer mechanism of internal and external angular momentum of laser bem to ultracold atoms.
Usually, laser beam has gaussian type of intensity profile, which has maximum photons on the axis of the beam. This type of beams has only internal angular momentum. In our research, we use special kind of laser beam which has null intensity on the axis of the beam and the phase front of the beam is helical. This kind of beam has two types of angular momentum, internal and external. Internal angular momentum is called spin angular momentum and external angular momentum is named as orbital angular momentum. We investigate the effect of both kind of angular momentum on the atomic BEC. The orbital angular momentum can rotate the atom and can give extra degree of security as an application. This kind of investigations can help to the quantum information and quantum computation.
