CNC Tool Path Planning using point cloud data

Of late, reverse engineering is being widely used to replicate an existing object and/or modify it to cater to our functional and aesthetic requirements, as an alternative for developing a product from scratch. Owing to the continuous innovations in CAD technologies, designers are now able to create complex functional surfaces with ease. Thus, automation of product manufacturing with the help of CNC machines must match those standards. This implies that CNC tool path planning must be flexible and precise enough to meet the requirements of robustness, accuracy, productivity and efficient resource utilization. The main objective is to generate an efficient tool path planning strategy for machining of freeform point based surfaces on a CNC machine.
