quantify turbulence and intermittency in urban wind field for better design of small wind turbine
Wind fields in the built environment and urban areas tend to be more turbulent and non-uniform compared to that in open terrain. The current wind standard, IEC61400-2 which is suitable for open terrain has its limitations in using it for the small wind turbines in such built environment. Accurate characterization of such urban wind flow fields by higher order statistics are required to accurately quantify turbulence and suggest necessary improvement in the wind standard to make it more inclusive of urban environments.
