The paper refers to a project, investigating the effect of the use of AirDecks in the bottom of blast holes carried out in four quarries in Austria. The focus of the investigations was on the effect of the AirDecks on toe fragmentation and blast vibrations. The work showed that the use of AirDecks in the bottom of blast holes has a positive impact on the toe fragmentation, as long as the subdrilling is adapted precisely to the height of the benches. A reduction of blast vibrations could not be verified.
