It is shown that the range of values of the parameters of the spontaneous oscillations in the Belousov-Zhabotinskii reaction (bromate + malonic acid + o-phenanthroline complexes of iron(II, III) + sulfuric acid) remains unchanged when viscous solutions are used. Silica gel was used as an inert thickening agent. The absence of any appreciable retardation of the oscillations when the viscosity of the solution is increased shows that the gel employed does not produce any appreciable retardation of the rate of diffusion of low-molecular compounds, which determines the rate of the oscillations.
