We have investigated the IL-6 pathway in the severe asthma phenotypes using U-BIOPRED database. A subset of severe asthma patients has increased IL6R mRNA levels and IL-6 protein levels in the sputum. This sub-population is highly neutrophilic and has poorer lung function. These neutrophilic patients have a high unmet medical need and they could potentially benefit from therapy targeting IL-6. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
