Acinetobacter calcoaceticus strains 69 V and CCM 5593 formed a β-lactamase that was predominantly found extracellularly in the culture medium. The enzyme has the characteristics of an inducible chromosomally mediated cephalosporinase. Neither cell lysis nor periplasmic leakage are responsible for the extracellular location. The mechanism of secretion is not known.
