Hyperparathyroidism attributed to chronic renal failure contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality. In our 103 parathyroidectomy patients matched to 1404 non-surgical patients, long-term mortality was reduced. This difference could not be attributed to differences in age, sex, time on renal replacement therapy or co-morbidities between the groups. This article is protected by copyright.
