Abstract

The growth of BHK 21 C13- and BHK 21 C13S-cells in stationary and rotating tissue culture systems is not inhibited by splitrates up to 1∶40. Such rates are unknown for any of the established cell lines.Yield of cells/cm2 in the 3 used culture systems approximate equivalent values [Baby's feeding bottles (PK) and Rouxbottles (RK) as stationary and Rolling bottles (RB) as rotating system], provided that one medium exchange in RB is performed. (Total cell yield for PK: 3.75×105 cells/cm2; RK: 3.3×105 cells/cm2; RB: 4.0×105 cells/cm2).Yield of cells/ml by the rotating tissue culture system is three times greater than that of the stationary system (PK: 8.25×105 cells/ml; RK: 6.0×105 cells/ml; RB: 24.0×105 cells/ml).Time of maximum yield of cells depends upon different splitrates but not on different tissue culture systems.Nomograms for the practical operation of BHK 21 C13- and BHK 21 C13Scells are presented.
