The concentration of elements, which could be determined with 10% precision (or better) by neutron activation analysis was used for the characterization of layers in the sediment of Neusiedler See. Up to eight elements in the following ranges were determined: 20–90 ppm Li, 0.3–0.7% Na, 0.7–2.7% K, 2.5–9.5% Al, 20–120 ppm V, 1.9–6.4% Mg, 1.5–17% Ca, 250–1600 ppm Mn. Significant differences were found in all sediment cores.
