De haas-van alphen effect in YbSn3

Abstract

We have measured the electrical resistivity and the de Haas-van Alphen effect of YbSn3 single crystal having resistivity ratio of 260. The resistivity revealed that YbSn3 is a superconductor with transition temperature of 3.6K. The de Haas-van Alphen frequencies range form 200T to 3000T and are nearly constants in the (100) and (110) planes. The cyclotron effective masses range 0.20 to 0.43 in units of free electron mass. We conclude that YbSn3 is a semimetal and its Fermi surfaces are composed of several small spheres having the volumes of 0.08%–4.4% of the Brillouin zone
