Abstract
We report the preparation, characterisation, and solvatochromic behaviour of bis-(4-methyl-4′-pentyl-2,2′-bipyridyl)(dicyano)iron(II). This is the first compound whose solubility characteristics permit its use as a solvatochromic indicator over the complete range of solvents from water to paraffins.
